Two students and two teachers were killed in Georgia with an assault rifle–marking 2024’s 45th school shooting. This senseless tragedy once again demands action–not thoughts and prayers–as our safety, and the safety of our children, continues to be dictated at the whims of the NRA and anti-gun reform Republicans.
Assault weapons, with their high capacity for rapid-fire and extensive damage, are a clear and present danger to public safety. They have been repeatedly used in mass shootings, resulting in devastating loss of life and trauma. Such firearms are designed for maximum lethality, making them unsuitable for civilian use.
A ban could significantly reduce the frequency and severity of these tragic events–as it has in the past.
We must unite as a nation to call for a ban on assault weapons. This is not about politics; it is about protecting lives.
