What happened yesterday at Apalachee High School was a senseless act of violence that will forever haunt that community, those students, and the families who lost loved ones.

It’s a reminder that we live in a fallen, depraved, and broken world – one where evil, violence, and hatred all-too-often seem to prevail. Against such reckless hate, it’s easy to feel a sense of hopelessness and despair.

At times like these, flippant words of “thoughts and prayers” are often mocked and dismissed. However, it is a good reminder that – in times like these and in every time – the one whom we petition is the sole source of hope.

God alone provides hope in the midst of dark times. He alone can fill the void left by loss, and His promises and plans – promises and plans made the One who can and will always deliver – are the only thing that can buttress us against the weight of despair.

And, God’s Word alone provides the path forward. No law, government program, public outcry, or PR campaign will end evil and senseless violence. A culture built on love of life, love of neighbor, and love of God can be the foundation for civil society where such killings become a thing of the past.

I, my family, and our Frontline team mourns with the Apalachee High School community, the people of Barrow County, and our friends across Georgia. Our hearts are heavy and saddened.

But, we are not without hope.

As I pray for those affected and hurting, I do so with faith in a God who offers healing and who offers a plan of restoration for us as a people. I do not pray in vain – I pray to Him who sits enthroned, in good times and bad, who provides hope to all who look to Him.
