On our planning call last week, we talked about our spring Unfrack FERC Campaign and how we're building off our successes and escalating pressure on FERC this Fall! This past spring our coalition disrupted FERC's monthly meeting over 16 times – and you can see many examples and past actions in our blog.
But a lot has changed since those spring actions! In the last few weeks, three new Commissioners have taken seats at FERC and the D.C. Circuit Court has struck at the heart of FERC's broken permitting process. By vacating multiple fossil fuel permits — including a Williams pipeline in New Jersey, as well as the Rio Grande LNG, TX LNG, and Rio Bravo pipelines in Texas — The court found that FERC has failed to consider climate change analysis and clear violations of environmental justice. This is just what we’ve been telling FERC for years and all spring with the unFrack FERC campaign!
With grassroots movements escalating against fossil fuels and federal Courts finally validating our arguments and issuing real consequences for FERC's failures – is this the beginning of the Fall of FERC?
September 19 is the critical moment to stand up to FERC over all their past failures, and demand a permanent change in the way the federal government reviews, permits, or opposes fossil fuels – especially LNG exports.
Sign now if you agree and we’ll keep you in the loop about upcoming FERC actions you can take online.
We're also looking for dozens of people to come to Washington D.C. September 18-19, and for 30 of them to interrupt the monthly FERC commissioner meeting. I see that you've been interested in our previous actions at FERC or live near enough to DC that you could make a trip to join us at FERC. September 18 will be a travel day for those of you coming from out of town, and we'll have time and space to share a meal, make some art, and make final preparations the night before.
We are looking for folks to commit to action by September 7th. If you're interested in that sort of in-person action, check out the blog post for more details or RSVP by September 7 to join us in DC.
Thanks,
Drew and the 198 reasons to topple a fossil fueled empire crew
