John,
This can’t keep happening.
Yesterday, two students and two teachers were killed in a shooting at
Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. Mason Schermerhorn, 14,
Christian Angulo, 14, Richard Aspinwall, 39, Christina Irimie, 53. Our
hearts are heavy with grief for this loss.
The 14-year-old perpetrator used an assault weapon to commit this horrific
act, and it was the deadliest episode of school violence in Georgia
history. We have to ask ourselves: how many children have to die until our
lawmakers do something to ban these weapons of war?
Politicians are already lining up to say their “thoughts and prayers” so
they can move on. We can’t let them. Let’s be clear: gun violence is a
preventable tragedy. We don’t have to live like this.
Georgia has critical holes in their gun safety laws. It is legal in
Georgia to leave an AR-15 out in the open, where a child can access it. If
someone is a risk to themselves or others, it is not possible to take
firearms away from them. This has to change.
Far too many kids in America know the fear and terror of a school
shooting. An entire community has been traumatized once again. We need to
break this cycle.

takes action to ban AR-15s and stop school shootings once and for all?

Politicians will try to move on as soon as they can, but we can’t let
them. Help us deliver a strong message that we won’t take this anymore.
Thank you for all your support.
In solidarity,
