Hi [name] or Friend,
“imagine winning. This is your sacred task.
This is your power. Imagine
every detail of winning, the exact smell of the summer streets
in which no one has been shot, the muscles you have never
unclenched from worry, gone soft as newborn skin,
the sparkling taste of food when we know
that no one on earth is hungry, that the beggars are fed,
that the old man under the bridge and the woman
wrapping herself in thin sheets in the back seat of a car,
and the children who suck on stones,
nest under a flock of roofs that keep multiplying their shelter.
Lean with all your being towards that day
when the poor of the world shake down a rain of good fortune
out of the heavy clouds, and justice rolls down like waters.”

I thought carefully about whether to share parts of this poem, one that is so powerful and which I return to in times of need in the same sentence as the word “election”- given that elections are but a tool and no party or candidate could ever represent our deepest dreams of liberation. It’s in your inbox, because we’re in a moment where we together need to “lean with all our being” towards the day when all are sheltered and fed, and use this election to make those conditions more possible in the future.
We’re gathering on Sept 12th at 7 ET/ 4 PT for our All Member Call: Strategy Download [[link removed]] to hear how our partners at Center for Popular Democracy Action and Movement for Black Lives Action Fund are using the tool of electoral strategy to envision winning for working people, far beyond November.
A little window into what that could look like? CPD Action has exerted huge pressure on the Biden Administration, resulting in Biden’s commitment to a 5% cap on rents around the country [[link removed]] – they are now creating a pressure point with the largest mass mobilization ( we’ll be there too, join us! [[link removed]] ) on Housing we’ve ever seen in this country to force Biden to make good on that commitment. Their power? They’re talking to millions of renters in the next two months, inviting them to join grassroots organizations and build our long-term political power–they’re forming a more organized block that could deliver or withhold a win. They need about 4 million dollars to make this field program happen, and we’re helping them close that gap [[link removed]] .
Next Thursday, we’ll hear more about that strategy, digest our thoughts on electoral work with our chapters, and make a plan to both move resources ( sign the Redistribution Pledge! [[link removed]] ) and energy into WINNING in the long term.
See you there,
Nora
We encourage you to consider joining RG as a dues paying member [[link removed]] , and if you would like to get involved in your local chapter, please fill out this intake form [[link removed]] !
