Folks,

On Wednesday morning, Apalachee High School suffered a horrific shooting where four lives were tragically cut short and many more were injured.

We cannot begin to wrap our heads around another senseless and preventable school shooting unfolding, especially within our own state. We mourn the lives lost in yesterday’s devastating events, and our hearts break for all the students, families, and faculty impacted by this tragedy.

Our students should not have to fear for their lives when they walk into their classrooms. They should not have to attend the funerals of their peers whose lives were cut short by a gunman in their school. They should not have to endure the trauma of a school shooting or anguish that they could be next.

Our children must be protected. We cannot fail them again.

Our heartbreak is not enough to prevent another tragedy like this from occurring again. Apalachee High School is the 45th school to suffer from a shooting in 2024 alone.

Georgians need immediate, urgent action to improve gun safety measures. We must rid our communities of gun violence, and push for legislation that ensures what happened on Wednesday will never happen again.

I understand you may be feeling powerless right now, folks. But, I urge you to turn some of your grief into action and honor the souls we lost yesterday by fighting for our children’s tomorrow.

Voting in this election has never been more dire. So, when you fill out your ballot this Fall, remember Apalachee High School and the countless lives forever changed on the morning of Wednesday, September 4th.

Never again.
