Spending bills are conservatives’ best opportunity to rein in inflation and woke government policies. Right now, conservatives in Congress have a chance to push for an alternative to “business as usual” spending in D.C. But they will face incredible pressure and will need your support to stand strong.

Government funding runs out on Sept. 30. Once again, Congress has failed to pass the 12 appropriations bills necessary to keep the government open. The Democrats’ plan is to extend funding with a continuing resolution (CR) until December, and then pass a massive “omnibus” bill during a lame-duck session. This gives Democrats the opportunity to spend as much of your money as possible, which will make inflation worse and fund their Leftist priorities.

To save taxpayers money and set up the next administration to build a better budget, conservatives should instead pass a CR that will extend funding into 2025. This will avoid a politicized government shutdown AND a reckless omnibus package.

House Republicans should unite to maximize this opportunity by not only passing a CR into the new year, but also attaching the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act to that CR before sending the bill to the Senate.

The SAVE Act is a common-sense, bipartisan bill that ensures only American citizens can vote in American elections. While it is true that it is already illegal for non-citizens to vote, many states don’t have a way of enforcing this.

For example, in many places driver’s licenses are accepted as proof of citizenship to vote, but proof of citizenship is not required to attain a driver’s license. The SAVE Act would close these loopholes and bolster election integrity. If Democrats want illegal immigrants and other non-citizens to vote, they can explain that to the American people. Republicans must remain united in support of election integrity.

A CR through the new year will save taxpayers tens of billions of dollars and keep the government running while Americans vote for a new president and try to expand our conservative ranks in Congress. That vote can and should be protected by the SAVE Act.
