Dear John,

Over the last few weeks, almost everything in our lives has changed because of COVID-19 – from shopping and socialising to working, studying and celebrating. Births, deaths, birthdays and religious festivals like Ramadan are all being marked differently. But, there is one thing that hasn’t changed, and that’s our commitment to refugees. In times of crisis, we stay and deliver.

Thanks to supporters like you, our teams are still on the ground, working hard to support refugees and keep them safe from this devastating virus. Keep reading to see what we’re doing around the world, how refugees are stepping up to the challenge of coronavirus and the new challenges we need to face together.

Protecting people across the planet

Protecting people across the planet

Whether we’re facing armed conflict, political unrest, natural disasters or deadly viruses, our work never stops. We’re working in virtually every corner of the world to keep COVID-19 at bay, provide extra healthcare and to ensure access to food, clean water and education.

Refugees giving back

In Za’atari Refugee Camp, Jordan, women are making soap for their neighbours to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Trained by UNHCR, these women are not just learning new skills, but they’re helping to keep people healthy and share the message of good hygiene practices too.

A crisis within a crisis

A crisis within a crisis

Throughout the world, from China, to the United States, COVID-19 is causing a surge in gender-based violence. The economic devastation caused by the virus is forcing women and girls into child marriages and transactional sex, while others are trapped in domestic abuse situations.

Protecting people across the planet

While you have to stay at home right now, there are millions of people who can’t go back to their homes because of conflict, persecution and political unrest. But you, or your children, can let refugees know that #everyonecounts during this pandemic with our new youth art competition and sending a creative message of hope.

In this uncertain time, we’re so glad that we can count on your support. Our work not only helps to give people basic food and shelter, but it enables refugees them to share their knowledge, skills and experience. By supporting refugees, everyone wins.
