The other day, it struck me: the Human Coalition website has grown into a library of stories. Even now, people ask our staff if we know “what happened next” for a particular mom and her baby.

And the beautiful part of the work you make possible is that, oftentimes, we do have an answer for them!

Not every mom you support chooses to enter our Continuum of Care program or stay in touch with one of our social workers after her pregnancy. But because this option is available to them—with no pressure of a deadline or cutoff—we often get the joy of watching their stories continue to unfold.

DeAnna’s story is one that received an outpouring of responses when we first shared it, which is why it feels so special to give you an update on her today!

When DeAnna first came in contact with Human Coalition, she shared how her life had been marked by hardship from an early age. Born into poverty and an abusive home in New Orleans, she learned to fend for herself. After meeting the love of her life, they started a family, but tragedy struck when her child’s father passed away, and Hurricane Katrina destroyed their home. Forced to flee to Texas, DeAnna started anew, working at a bakery and eventually becoming pregnant again under challenging circumstances.

When DeAnna discovered she was pregnant again, she was overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty. Seeking an abortion, she began searching online for options. That’s when she found Human Coalition. Thanks to your support, she was connected with a nearby pregnancy center, where she received a free ultrasound and experienced the love and support, she desperately needed.

*DeAnna expected judgment but was met with kindness and encouragement. That day, she chose life for her baby boy, Major.*

But their family’s story doesn’t end there. Your generosity has connected DeAnna with resources that have provided her with parenting classes, health insurance, job training, and continuous support even years after her pregnancy.

*And this week, I received a touching update: DeAnna’s son, Major, is starting the fifth grade!*

With everything our hearts have been focused on during back-to-school, DeAnna and Major’s story is a reminder that you are truly rescuing a lives and shaping a child’s future !

You, along with this growing coalition of rescuers, are the reason Major can grow up and fulfill God’s purpose for his life. And I can only imagine the beautiful memories DeAnna is making with her son!

Thank you for making such an incredible, lifesaving and life-changing difference in the lives of women like Deanna and children like Major. You’re amazing!
