Chinese authorities wield sophisticated, ever-evolving tools to suppress dissent and maintain what they call “social stability.” Citizens are protesting anyway. Sometimes, they even win.

Last week's issue of the China Dissent Monitor (CDM), marked two years of Freedom House’s efforts to monitor these protests. Election Watch: Uzbekistan

Next month, Uzbekistan will hold parliamentary elections. While elections in Uzbekistan lack genuine competition, these are the first under a new system where half of the chamber’s seats will be elected by a majority of the vote share. Key digital interference issues to watch out for include arrests and Internet shutdowns and website blocks and information manipulation.
