Hi John, Hope your summer has been fantastic? We’ve been enjoying the sunshine here at Born Free, but have also had an incredible month of action for animals. You’ve been with us every step of the way, and this update has news of lobbying the new UK government, prowling for lions, and a Guinness World Record attempt!

ELEPHANT HEARTBREAK
Very, very sadly, another elephant has died at Chester Zoo, UK. Riva was only four years old, and her shocking death came just weeks after her mother’s. Elephants don’t belong in zoos! Please sign our Elephant-Free UK petition.

ELEPHANT JOY
Meanwhile in South Africa, 42-year-old Charley the elephant – caught from the wild aged two – is free! Thanks to Four Paws and EMS, and after many years of negotiation with our support, Charley has been released in a private reserve.

MARCH FOR BADGERS
Thanks to those of you who joined our peaceful protest in London this week – with our allies and a 100,000+ name petition, we called on MPs to end the UK’s barbaric badger cull. Since 2013, over 230,000 of these remarkable, ancient beings have been shot.

ROAR OF THANKS
Supporters around the world, including hundreds in Kenya, joined us for our annual Walk on the Wild Side event in August, culminating on World Lion Day. You each prowled 23,000 steps – one for every lion in the wild – and together we raised a lion-sized £21,467!

At Born Free, we’re endlessly inspired by our supporters and how deeply you care about helping wild animals in need. We still have much to do but, together, we are creating lasting change for good. Thank you for all you do! From your grateful friends at Born Free
