Hi—

For the school community in Winder, Georgia, tragedy struck today. Four
people were killed and at least nine were injured when a 14-year-old
shooter opened fire.

We are barely a month into the academic year, and four people who woke up
to go to school or work today will never return home.

The Barrow County community, like many before, has been traumatized. While
law enforcement responded at Apalachee High School, every school in the
district went into lockdown. Every student, every parent, and every
teacher across the county feared for their own life or for their loved
ones.

Back-to-school season should be for learning and growing. But right now,
going to school means living under the threat of gun violence. In the
United States, more than cancer, more than car accidents, guns are the
leading cause of death for children and teens.

We will not sit by while our children continue to fall victim to gun
violence. We will push forward common-sense gun safety legislation at
every level of government. [ [link removed] ]Please, join our movement to demand
lawmakers take action to protect our communities.

We are grieving today with the families of Apalachee community members
whose lives were taken or forever changed. And we are more committed than
ever to creating a world where families can go about their daily lives
free from the fear of gun violence.

Thanks for being with us,

Everytown for Gun Safety
