Great news, John: Justice
Democrats incumbent and Squad member Rep. Ayanna Pressley just won her
primary election in Massachusetts’ 7th District yesterday!

Congratulations to Ayanna on doing what she has always done best: bringing
the people closest to the pain, closer to power. From leading on abortion
rights and racial justice to a ceasefire and arms embargo, MA-07 deserves
her leadership in Congress serving the people every day.

With Ayanna’s victory secured, the 2024 primaries are officially over for
our candidates.

Our movement has suffered immeasurable losses this cycle with the losses
of Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush. But the backlash from monied corporate and
right-wing interests proves not only are we succeeding in our fight for
justice and progress, but our mandate to elect more Justice Democrats and
take big money out of politics is abundantly clear.

The greatest obstacle to Democrats delivering the agenda they have
promised the American people is the influence of corporate super PACs and
lobbies like AIPAC buying our Party's inaction. We must show our voters
that a brighter future is possible if we fight for it.

[ [link removed] ]Before I talk more about our plans for the future, can you pitch in a
grassroots contribution of $5 or whatever you can afford to
fuel Justice Democrats’ work ahead?

It is more important than ever to have candidates like Ayanna, Summer,
Ilhan, Rashida, and AOC in Congress. While Donald Trump is a major threat
to democracy, solely focusing on him ignores the systemic issues we face,
like our campaign finance system.

Our progressive bloc in Congress has fundamentally reset the urgency at
the federal level around this and many other issues, like human rights,
Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, housing justice, and so much more.
We must forge ahead in fortifying and building upon our existing
infrastructure as a movement to elect more Squad members to Congress.

Our political system consistently fails to meet the crises that
working-class people, young people, women, and people of color face every
day. The people closest to the pain ARE NOT closest to the power, and that
needs to change. While the Party establishment looks the other way when
corporations and GOP billionaires meddle in our elections, we know the
threat they pose to our democracy and must continue to build the next
generation of diverse, working-class leadership in Congress.

Though our movement lost two of our best in Congress this cycle, it hasn’t
defeated us. Our movement isn’t just in DC, it’s on the streets, in
churches and schoolhouses, in union halls and community centers. We will
keep fighting across the country to create the world we want to live in.

Jamaal and Cori couldn’t be bought, so our opposition had to buy someone
else. Congress will be worse without them and our movement is stronger
because of them. It is up to all of us to honor their fight in Congress
and do the work to ensure we can truly support leaders like them in
Congress now and in the future.

We don’t have all the answers right now — but over the next few months, we
will be reflecting and debriefing alongside partners on our new learnings,
new challenges, and new paths forward to continue expanding our bloc in
Congress.

One thing is clear: our movement must prioritize comprehensive campaign
finance reform as an urgent policy priority, and we must support and
expand the Squad in order to achieve the change our communities deserve.

on grassroots support from people like you to take on the
multi-million-dollar war chests of super PACs and lobby groups like AIPAC
who are trying to push our movement backward.
