HUW MERRIMAN MP NEWSLETTER

News from the Virtual Parliament and Constituency

I hope that this newsletter finds you well. We remain in a difficult position, with many challenges still ahead of us. Our strong community continues to rally around and play its part.

My office continues to receive high a volume of casework and is working closely with local stakeholders. Parliament’s experiment with virtual democracy continues, albeit with limitations. The Transport Select Committee, which I chair, has held three inquiry sessions now. Getting called to speak in Parliament is more of a challenge. Having always attempted to attend the chamber, I used to get more of a chance to speak on local issues than other MPs who preferred to view from their office television. Now that any MP can join from home there appears to be more demand. That said, I have just been drawn out of the hat for PMQs and I hope to make the list of those who get called. If so, as the articles below will demonstrate, care home support is a likely candidate for more focus.

Changing the way we do business

When this column first appeared in 2015, we thought ‘In the House’ would be a good title to show what goes on inside Parliament. Never did I think that it would refer to MPs participating in Parliament ‘in their House’.
