First Annual 988 Day is September 8th!

First annual 988 Day flyer

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has designated September 8 as the first annual 988 Day. The purpose of 988 Day is to raise awareness of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline across the country. This year?s theme is ?No Judgment. Just Help.? Help spread the word using the social media hashtag #988Day.

What is 988? If you?re experiencing a behavioral health crisis, you can call or text 988 for free and confidential 24/7 support and resources. In LA County, the Department of Mental Health contracts with Didi Hirsch to operate the 988-crisis center. Didi Hirsch receives more than 6,000 calls, texts, and chats per month, resolving most calls over the phone. When a caller needs in-person support, 988 can link callers with the DMH Help Line for an in-person field response and urgent appointments.
