Dear John,
Labor Day is the celebration of social and economic victories for American workers, particularly those rarely seen or recognized in the supply chain. We pause to recognize the many activist workers, tireless in their fight for fairness, who persisted despite threats, harassment, abuse and even death. For the Fair Food Program, this Labor Day was as much a celebration of its success as it was a reminder of how far it must still go. On the heels of Labor Day, I would like to share three recent articles with you as a reminder why you stand with the Fair Food Program, and why we are deeply grateful that you do.
The first article, from Axios, [[link removed]] details the pervasive problem of modern-day slavery in our food supply chain, and recognizes the Fair Food Program as the “key to ending widespread forced labor.” Second, an opinion piece in USA Today [[link removed]] , written by CIW leader and farmworker Gerardo Reyes Chavez, who speaks in both personal and systemic terms regarding the transformative impact of the FFP in the age of climate change, as well as the urgent need to expand the program’s reach even further. And third, a new Denver Post [[link removed]] feature on how the FFP is eradicating serious abuses in agriculture, and gaining steam in Colorado, with 16 new growers slated to join in the coming months.
With your support, our worker-led movement is ushering a new day in agriculture—one that guarantees farmworkers’ their dignity and freedom in the fields.
On behalf of the Fair Food Program and with great appreciation,
Tiffani Lennon
