Friend,

What would you say to a government agency using old projects already scheduled in order to take new tax credits aimed at generating new projects for new environmental benefits? I’m Todd Myers, Vice President for Research, at Washington Policy Center. Today, I want to address a concerning issue with Sound Transit’s financial practices and their disregard for real transportation needs.

Our recent analysis unveiled how Sound Transit is poised to exploit dubious environmental credits to siphon additional state transportation dollars, despite a dramatic decline in ridership. This tactic not only diverts crucial funds away from genuinely needed infrastructure but also continues the wasteful spending that plagues our transportation system.

The reality is that most Washington commuters drive daily. Yet, state and local transportation spending doesn’t reflect this fact. Instead of focusing on effective solutions for drivers, Sound Transit is doubling down on projects based on outdated, lofty projections that don't meet the actual needs of our citizens and cost far more than warranted.

At Washington Policy Center, we advocate for smart investments in transportation, ensuring that your tax dollars are used efficiently and effectively. Our work includes scrutinizing transportation policies and projects to protect your interests. We’ve previously exposed poorly conceived plans and efforts to drain transportation funds but we’ve also offered solutions as to how to streamline and strengthen services.

We need your support to push back against wasteful spending and demand a transportation system that prioritizes the needs of Washington drivers.
