John,

During these unprecedented times, I want you to know that Food & Water Action is staying vigilant and continuing to fight for a healthy future for all of us. Like you, we want a world where everyone has food they can trust, clean drinking water and a livable climate. I’d like to share some of the recent progress you helped make happen.

Water Shutoffs During a Pandemic?!?

No one should have to worry about losing water service, especially during a pandemic. Without access to water, one can’t wash their hands to help stay safe. Yet many are experiencing just that.

We organized a critical grassroots campaign demanding a moratorium on water shutoffs. Thousands of activists like you made their voices known. As a result of public action, 13 states, Washington, D.C. and almost 650 other local jurisdictions have suspended water shutoffs, protecting 204 million people.

Now we are moving this call to the national level. Along with 233 organizations from across the country, Rep. Lawrence (MI-14) and 80 other members of Congress, we are urging Congressional leaders to prioritize $47.5 billion in water funding as part of the next COVID-19 stimulus package. Learn more >>

Water affordability is a deepening national crisis, but with your support we can put an end to water shutoffs and repair our water infrastructure, ensuring safe, affordable water for everyone.

Pioneering activist Jane Fonda was impressed by our work to keep the water turned on in homes across the country. She recently produced a video and social media post amplifying our leadership. Thanks to Ms. Fonda and everyone who supports this life-saving work!

USDA is Taking Big Risks with Our Food

Being able to trust our food is crucial for our health and safety. It’s even more crucial during this pandemic. But the Trump administration has been busy doubling down on its mission to deregulate Big Ag. Trump’s USDA is reducing the number of inspectors assigned to the slaughter lines in some of the biggest meat processing facilities. It’s turning over critical inspection tasks to untrained company employees and removing the cap on how fast a slaughter line can run. This leaves inspectors only seconds to determine if the meat being processed is safe for sale and consumption.

But we are pushing back. Because of you, thousands of messages have been sent to Congress asking them to stop USDA from granting food safety waivers. Learn more >>

Oil Buy-out, Not Bailout

Americans are waking up to the fact that oil is worthless. As American fossil fuel corporations’ stock values hit historic lows, the Trump administration wants taxpayers to bail out the failing industry. More than 30,000 activists like you have raised their voices saying COVID-19 stimulus-funded bailouts should go to people, not Big Oil & Gas.

Food & Water Action has another idea for Congress. Maybe it’s time for a buy-out of the fossil fuel industry, not a bailout. For pennies on the dollar, the federal government could take control of major oil and gas corporations, ensure a fair and just transition for the industry’s workers and affected communities, and ramp down oil and gas production, prioritizing our environment and a sustainable future — while creating new green jobs for workers right now! Donor Highlight

Our Planned Gift donor Karen White says she supports Food & Water Action “because of my great concern about the many ways that environmental and health issues are being ignored or (worse) existing protections are being overturned. The current administration clearly places no value on the health of our people and our fragile world.”
