John,
Kier Starmer is continuing the disastrous legacy of austerity.
The new Labour government has hinted to an austerity budget of yet more public spending cuts and a tighter squeeze on the poorest in society. Refusing to end the two-child benefit cap in the next budget, the Prime Minister warned of "painful" decisions ahead.
"Enduring more economic pain and hardship isn’t what people voted for.” says Green Party Co-Leader, Carla Denyer MP.
She said; "Labour needs to be honest about the fact that they could choose to make things better for everyone if they were bolder and braver. We must generate the funds needed for investment by shifting the burden away from the poorest onto the wealthiest. Labour’s refusal to tax the super-rich shows that business as usual is very much still in business."
We know that poverty is a political choice. We know that the overdue solutions to the cost of living crisis are the same solutions required for tackling the climate emergency. Only the Green Party understands the radical and transformative change our country needs, and only we understand the urgency that is required.
If you agree with us, you should become a member of the Green Party today.
