Hospitality in the time of COVID-19

UNITE HERE Local 11 is no stranger to meeting big challenges with even bigger, bolder solutions. But the COVID-19 pandemic has posed more than a challenge. With the tourism industry in a tailspin and 32,000 members' jobs on the line, what can a hotel and hospitality worker union do?

It can feed a whole lot of people, for starters. Local 11 Co-President Susan Minato explains:

“The first two weeks we probably saw about 20,000 people laid off.
More than half are women."

Thanks in part to your calls, emails, and signatures, worker retention and right of recall passed unanimously in Los Angeles City Council and were signed into law by Mayor Eric Garcetti last night!
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors also voted to guarantee sick leave to workers in large businesses in unincorporated LA County!
