Hi John — it’s Congressman Dan Goldman from New York’s 10th Congressional District.

In just a moment, I’m going to kindly ask you to split a contribution between my campaign and Laura Gillen ([link removed]) to help us defend American democracy against MAGA Republicans’ relentless attacks. But first, I want to tell you about what prepared me for this fight.

I’ve spent my life holding the powerful accountable and protecting our democracy.

In 2019, I served as the Democrats’ Lead Counsel during Donald Trump’s first impeachment investigation, where we exposed Trump’s abuse of the power of his office for his own personal benefit by extorting the President of Ukraine to investigate his opponent, Joe Biden.

For ten years before that, I served as Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where I helped hold powerful actors accountable and made our city safer by taking on corporate fraudsters, violent gangs, mafia bosses, and Russian organized crime.

My entire career has been rooted in public service — and now, as MAGA Republicans work overtime to undermine our freedom and attack our fundamental rights, I’m continuing the fight in Congress.

There’s no question that the very foundations of our democracy are under imminent threat. Today’s Republican party is plagued by extremism, completely beholden to a fascist convicted felon Donald Trump, and dead-set on ripping away our personal freedoms.

Little did we know that the 2019 Ukraine impeachment was just a small preview of Trump’s corrupt core. His corruption escalated after the 2020 election, when he tried to overturn a lawful election through fraud, deceit and lies – ultimately resulting in two separate criminal indictments. It continued after he left office, when he violated a subpoena by hiding highly classified national security materials in his bathroom in Mar-a-Lago – leading to another indictment. And more recently, Trump was convicted by a jury of 34 felonies for fraudulently misleading the American people about his affair with a porn star.

This is shaping up to be the most consequential election of our lifetimes, John. We will decide who we want to be our nation’s leader: a former prosecutor or a corrupt, convicted felon?
