9th Circuit blocks Montana voter suppression law

• In a win for voters, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals blocked a Montana law imposing criminal penalties on voters who do not cancel their voter registration in other counties or states — rejecting the RNC's request to have the law in effect for the 2024 election.

  
  

• Pro-voting groups argued the law “could discourage some of their thousands of members from registering to vote in Montana, especially if those individuals do not know where they plan to vote due to uncertainty about where they will reside during future elections.”

Judge orders Pennsylvania county to pay over $1 million in Dominion voting machines case

• A state judge on Friday ordered Fulton County, Pennsylvania and its attorney to pay over $1 million in sanctions after improperly investigating Dominion Voting Systems machines after the 2020 election and violating an order from the state’s highest court.

  
  

• This is just one example of the numerous Republican challenges to the legitimacy of Dominion voting machines, which continue to be disproven and fit into the larger movement to overturn the 2020 election results.

Republican state officials attack crucial section of Voting Rights Act

• In a case challenging Louisiana's congressional map, 13 Republican attorneys general filed a brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to rule that either Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act is unconstitutional or cannot be enforced by the courts.

Ohio’s GOP secretary of state restricts use of ballot drop boxes

• Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (R) issued new guidance over the weekend that limits the use of drop boxes in the state. Democrats in the state said the rule disproportionately impacts seniors and voters with disabilities and violates state law.

  
  

• The aim of the directive, according to LaRose, is to enforce Ohio’s ban on “ballot harvesting,” which is “a process by which an individual attempts to collect and return absent voters’ ballots of other persons without accountability.”

Democrats step in to defend North Carolina’s voter rolls

• The Democratic National Committee moved to intervene in a lawsuit filed last week by the Republican National Committee targeting over 225,000 voter registrations in North Carolina. The Democrats argue the GOP lawsuit is trying "to disenfranchise voters on the eve of an election."
