Friend,
Seven years ago this week, the Trump administration tried to end DACA, tearing apart the lives of countless immigrant families. For so many undocumented folks, DACA is more than just a policy — it’s a lifeline.
DACA opened doors that had been firmly shut to undocumented immigrants, and allowed them to live, work, study, and pursue their dreams free from the threat of deportation. But with one stroke of a pen, the Trump administration attempted to take all of that away, pushing an anti-immigrant agenda that ignored the fact that immigrants are the very fabric of our nation.
This is why United We Dream Action and our allies fought back and took this battle to the Supreme Court — and won. Ever since, we have always reaffirmed DACA is right and legal, and we are here to stay.
But we know DACA has always been a band-aid. And while Trump’s actions didn’t completely end DACA, the program became vulnerable to attacks from right-wing administrations and judges that severely weakened the program — ultimately shutting down the program to new applicants and leaving millions of undocumented individuals with no protection. This anniversary is a reminder that it’s time for more than temporary fixes.
We need a pathway to citizenship that offers real, lasting protections for all 11 million undocumented people and United We Dream Action is leading the fight for permanent solutions — but we’re going to need a lot of help to make this a reality.
Friend, will you chip in $10 or more to help fuel the fight for a clear pathway to citizenship?
