John,
Labor Day weekend is over, so we’re officially in the final stretch of the 2024 election season, with Election Day just over 60 days away.
According to most polls, Trump is losing. That means we can expect an increasingly desperate effort by Trump and Fox News to try and smear Vice President Harris in the final days of the campaign.
What would that look like? Well, Fox News primetime host Jesse Watters' racist and sexist attacks have given us a preview.
Spoiler alert: it looks a hell of a lot like 2016.
We’ll tell you more in a moment, but if you’re ready to help COURIER fight back against right-wing news coverage before the 2024 election, can you pitch in $25 now? [[link removed]]
Since Vice President Harris became the Democratic nominee, Fox News primetime host Jesse Watters has repeatedly used Kamala Harris’ race and gender to attack her and her supporters.
Watters called Harris her a “frightened woman,” a “princess… like Paris Hilton,” he sarcastically claimed that men who vote for women would “transition into women,” and said she would be “sassy” and “play the victim” in the upcoming debate.
He also latched on to the racist attacks against her, saying she was picked as part of a “DEI deal” while simultaneously claiming she is “not African-American, technically” because her dad is from Jamaica.
In a disgusting, innuendo-laden attack that even appeared to shock female guests appearing on his show, Watters said Harris would “get paralyzed in the situation room while the generals have their way with her.”
Watters and Fox News’ playbook is nothing new – in fact, it looks a lot like how they joined forces with Trump in 2016 to attack Hillary Clinton, who also had a substantial lead in the polls going into September.
Trump called her a “nasty woman.” He led supporters in chants to “lock her up.” He questioned her stamina and made fun of her voice. Ironically, because Trump lost the popular vote in 2016, he said that “if Hillary Clinton were a man, she wouldn’t get 5% of the vote.”
In 2016, all of that misogyny took its toll. The good news is that this time, COURIER is here and ready to fight back.
We launched our eleven battleground newsrooms across the country to fight the toxic rhetoric in right-wing news. Our reporters work around the clock to focus on the facts, combatting the attacks that drive Americans further apart.
We will be here every day calling out Fox News and Donald Trump for their disgusting attacks on Kamala Harris, and we need your help to reach more voters in the swing state communities that we serve.
