*2024 Environmental Congress*

Sign up today [ [link removed] ] and join us at the 2024 Environmental Congress! We're hosting this year’s Congress across four cities in Minnesota, each centering around a different environmental issue.

*September 23* – Brainerd: Climate resiliency and adaptation in key habitats (DNR)

*September 24* – St. Cloud: Developing Minnesota’s green economy (DEED, Commerce)

*September 25* – Saint Paul: Supporting local actions through the Climate Action Framework (MPCA)

*September 26* – Mankato: Managing water pollution on agricultural lands (MDA) 

The Congress is a space to harness the energy and hopes of Minnesotans and cooperatively build a healthy future for our communities, wildlife, lands, and waters. We’ll do this by diving into small group conversations to discuss and identify our shared goals and collective needs for key elements of the state’s ongoing efforts to address critical environmental issues. Participants will then have an opportunity to share their common viewpoints with each other and members of the Board. Each meeting will be from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. and will include light snacks and refreshments.

*Project description: *Veit & Company, Inc. (Veit) proposes the construction and operation of a sand and gravel mine on a parcel located within Section 16, Township 120N, Range 23 W, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The proposed site contains sand resources which will be mined and processed for use in redi-mix concrete, asphalt pavement, and as base material for private and public construction projects in the area The mining operation would occur in seven phases over the approximately 45-acre site.

Wabasha Barge Facility [ [link removed] ]

*Project description: *The City of Wabasha, in cooperation with the Wabasha Port Authority, is proposing to construct a commercial port facility on the Mississippi River in the City of Wabasha, Minnesota. The 8.2-acre Wabasha Barge Facility would facilitate the transfer of materials, to include but not limited to dredge material and other commodities, from river barges to trucks for transport to off-site facilities. The City of Wabasha would own the project site and contract out the port operations and transportation of materials.

Minnesota Duty Officer reports pertaining to fish kills are summarized in the following table, in accordance with 103G.216, REPORTING FISH KILLS IN PUBLIC WATERS, Subd. 2 Reporting Requirement. These reports were received via the Minnesota Duty Officer prior to the submission deadline for this edition of the EQB Monitor.
