LEGISLATIVE LANDING: RECAPPING IMPORTANT INITIATIVES FROM THE 118th CONGRESS

Last week, we covered the REINS Act, an effort to restore Congress’ constitutional authority over unelected bureaucrats. This week, learn more about steps I've taken to protect civilian job security for our Reservists and Guardsmen.

PROTECTING SERVICEMEMBER CIVILIAN EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS

Image

As a combat veteran and a former business owner, I understand how critical reemployment protections are for servicemembers and their families. Unfortunately, Reservists and Guardsmen often face obstacles when returning to their civilian jobs after they answer the call to duty. Those recalled to active duty should not have to worry about their job security after bravely serving their country.

That's why I introduced H.R. 3943, the Servicemember Employment Protection Act. This bill amends the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) to ensure Reservists and Guardsmen who return from active duty are not disadvantaged or discriminated against in their civilian careers. I introduced this measure in June 2023, which passed unanimously in the House Veterans' Affairs Committee in July 2023.
