** District 6 Friends and Neighbors,

Good morning -- today certainly feels like Fall! Happy Back to School District 6 students and families! Road safety as we head back to school is critical -- for tips and reminders on what to do as motorist when buses are stopping you can reference this link from the Office of Traffic Safety ([link removed].) .
------------------------------------------------------------

** School Bus Safety Tips for Motorists
------------------------------------------------------------
* Motorists must stop at least 20 feet from a school bus that is displaying red flashing lights and/or its stop arm is extended when approaching from the rear and from the opposite direction on undivided roads.
* Red flashing lights on buses indicates students are either entering or exiting the bus.
* Motorists are not required to stop for a bus if the bus is on the opposite side of a separated roadway (median, etc.) β€” but they should remain alert for children.
* Altering a route or schedule to avoid a bus is one way motorists can help improve safety. In doing so, motorists won’t find themselves behind a bus and as a result, potentially putting children at risk.
* Watch for school crossing patrols and pedestrians. Reduce speeds in and around school zones.
* Watch and stop for pedestrians β€” the law applies to all street corners, for both marked and unmarked crosswalks (all street corners) β€” every corner is a crosswalk.

I hope you had an amazing Summer and were able to stop by the Minnesota State Fair! My sons and I made it last week and our favorite food still remains Sweet Martha's Cookies!

** I remain dedicated to key areas that our community highlighted during the special election: enhancing public safety, ensuring affordable and accessible housing, investing in our environment, partnering to improve youth programming and supporting roads and bridges while also not having property taxes price residents out of their homes. I understand these are not just policy areas; they are the pillars of a thriving and healthy community.
