THOMPSON TO IOWA Just a week after I had my Ways and Means Committee colleagues - including Chairman Jason Smith of Missouri - at the Iowa State Fair for a field hearing on the importance of reauthorizing and improving pro-growth tax policies from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, I welcomed House Agriculture Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson to the Farm Progress Show in Boone. We had great conversations with equipment manufacturers, energy producers, and farmers and hosted an informative forum on the need to pass the Farm Bill as soon as possible, overturn California's Prop 12 mandates on our producers, and strengthen crop insurance. VISITING IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY WITH HOUSE AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN G.T. THOMPSON The day before we made our way to the Farm Progress Show, House Agriculture Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson and I toured the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab at Iowa State and had the opportunity to check out Phase II of the expansion of the Lab. We met with veterinarians, diagnosticians, and veterinary toxicologists who assess and test animal samples to pinpoint various illnesses and diseases. CATCHING UP WITH BILL COUSER IN NEVADA It’s always good to see my friend — Bill Couser — who serves on my Agriculture Advisory Board, speaks up for Iowa cattle producers, and advocates for homegrown Iowa biofuels. I will continue to stand up for our farmers and be the strongest voice for agriculture in Congress! EXTENDING AND IMPROVING THE TAX CUTS AND JOBS ACT At the end of 2025, pro-growth, pro-worker, pro-family tax policies authorized by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act are set to expire. Serving on the House Ways and Means Committee, I’m working to extend and improve these tax cuts for our families, farmers, and small businesses. Thompson — and I had a great time checking out the latest advancements in farm equipment at the Farm Progress Show! Equipment manufacturers are a vital component of a strong farm economy. CHATTING WITH LEADERSHIP NEVADA Great to see Iowans with Leadership Nevada — a program that promotes civic engagement and community development — the other day. Nevada is a beautiful community with a vibrant Main Street! TALKING WITH KEITH LUNDBERG ON WNAX It’s always great to chat with Keith Lundberg with WNAX about Iowa agriculture and our farming community. We touched on my letter to USDA calling for the creation of a Strategic Initiative to combat bird flu, the urgent need to pass the Farm Bill, and our growing ag trade deficit. CONTINUING MY 36 COUNTY TOUR IN WEBSTER CITY I continued my 36 County Tour yesterday morning with the Ames Regional Economic Alliance to discuss economic development initiatives in Webster City and Hamilton County. We walked down Webster City’s beautiful Main Street and toured building renovations as part of the LIFT Webster City Downtown Project. RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR THE NEW MARSHALLTOWN COMMUNITY-BASED OUTPATIENT CLINIC FOR VETERANS Yesterday, I spoke at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Marshalltown Community-Based Outpatient Clinic on my 36 County Tour. This facility will ensure that our veterans in Marshalltown and surrounding communities receive the high-quality care that they have earned. ONE LAST THING: RECOGNIZING MY AWESOME CASEWORKER! Yesterday, I grabbed coffee with my awesome caseworker — Ann — who does a phenomenal job helping Iowans navigate federal agencies and cut through frustrating red tape. If you need help with the VA, Social Security, Medicare, or getting a passport, please contact my office! MY WEEKLY COLUMN: GIVING OUR COMMUNITIES A SEAT AT THE TABLE IN CONGRESS In August, I welcomed both the Chairman of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee – Representative Jason Smith from Missouri – and Chairman of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee – Representative G.T. Thompson from Pennsylvania – to hear directly from Iowans about their suggestions for everything from tax reform to agricultural policy. As the only member of Congress who serves on both the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Agriculture Committee, I’m so grateful that the leaders of two of the most powerful committees on Capitol Hill could make the trip to Iowa. These visits were extremely meaningful for Iowa and represent an important example of giving our families, farmers, and businesses a seat at the table when policies are considered, written, and implemented. Read more in my weekly column below. My weekly column: Giving our communities a seat at the table in Congress When I was first elected to Congress, I promised that I would focus my energy on finding solutions to the challenges facing our families, farmers, businesses, and rural communities. Nearly four years later, my mission hasn't changed. Read More CLOSING POLL FOR THE DAY Do you think that China poses a threat to our country?
