Friend — earlier this month, a group of donors put up a triple-match — up to $100,000 — for every donation through 11:59 pm, April 30. We're $11,413 away from that goal.
As we face down what could be the most important environmental vote of the year — we can't come up short.
Here's the situation: The Senate is returning Monday to hash out the details of the next coronavirus relief bill.
Five Republican senators with ties to the oil industry are now calling for a bailout for the fossil fuel sector. As oil markets crash, we fear their negotiations may pick up momentum.
We're launching a major campaign to stop them. We're flooding members' offices with calls and letters demanding a clean relief bill. This is a fight we can win — I promise — but
only if we go all out.
We need your help — now, before midnight. We set an ambitious goal to raise $100,000 before the end of this month, with every gift being triple-matched. That means that until then, every dollar you donate will get us
three times closer to our goal.
Please, friend — act now, before it's too late. Make an emergency gift today »
This bailout CANNOT be allowed to happen. The oil industry already receives billions in taxpayer subsidies every single year, and under cover of the coronavirus crisis, many of these companies have been lobbying for regulation rollbacks that would make it easier for them to pollute the air.
You read that right — during a global respiratory pandemic, they are trying to make it harder for people to breathe.
We already know that Trump supports these oil bailouts — after we successfully blocked them from making it into the first relief package, Trump turned around and added executives from the top oil producers to his official task force to re-open the country.
All of our relief efforts right now should be focused on protecting public health and providing relief for families and businesses who need it most — NOT helping industries whose pollution makes death from COVID-19 more likely and who perpetuate systemic environmental injustice.
Just weeks ago, when Trump tried to force Congress to include oil and gas bailouts in the first coronavirus relief package, we launched a massive organizing effort to stop them — and environmental leaders in the House successfully blocked direct oil bailout money from being included in the bill.
We won.
We can beat them again, but we're running out of time. We have just hours left to reach our goal of $100,000, which we desperately need if we're going to block these bailouts a second time. Here's where things stand:
FOR IMMEDIATE REVIEW: YOUR TRIPLE MATCH STATUS
Please confirm
We can turn up the pressure ahead of the next relief package and force Congress to block these bailouts, but only if we keep giving this fight EVERYTHING we have. To do that, we
MUST meet our goal.
Whatever you can give now will make a huge difference. There are a lot of unknowns right now, but with your support, we can be ready for anything.
Please — donate today. There's only one day left to make a triple-matched donation. Just $5 can help us meet our goal »
We couldn't any of this without the support of people like you. Thank you, friend, for everything you do.
