Friend— Happy Labor Day!
On this day, we take the time to celebrate all the workers who have made America into the great nation it is today, as well as the struggle for labor rights and benefits like minimum wage, paid leave, and unionization.
From humble origins with the bricklayers forming the first Wisconsin unions in 1847, the labor movement gradually won more and more rights for Wisconsin workers, including 8 hour workdays, unemployment compensation, and the right to organize.
These rights didn’t come cheap, however—strikers were arrested and assaulted. And in current times as labor rights have increasingly come under attack, it’s more important than ever to recognize both the sacrifices made for Wisconsinite labor rights and the urgency to defend these rights in the present day.
WisDems vows to never forget the sacrifice of those heroes and to always keep fighting for and defending labor rights and Wisconsin unions in every part of the state.
Enjoy your day, friend.
