John,
This Labor Day, as millions of Americans struggle to make ends meet, corporate executives are raking in obscene profits on the backs of workers. The average CEO of a S&P 500 company now makes a staggering $17.7 million per year—268 times more than their employees.[1]
Even worse? Many of these same companies are using your tax dollars to crush workers' attempts to unionize and bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions.
It's time to put an end to this cycle of greed and exploitation. The No Tax Breaks for Union Busting Act would eliminate tax deductions for corporate anti-union activities, saving taxpayers tens of millions of dollars each year and leveling the playing field for workers.
As inequality reaches historic levels, we can't afford to keep subsidizing union-busting behavior that drives down wages and strips workers of their seat at the table. Wealthy corporations are spending millions to deny workers their fundamental right to organize, all while writing it off as a business expense.
This Labor Day, demand Congress pass the No Tax Breaks for Union Busting Act. Tell your senators and representative: No more tax breaks for union busters!
The 2017 Trump tax scam made this situation even worse by eliminating workers' ability to deduct union dues from their taxes. So while corporations get tax breaks for crushing unions, unionized workers have had their tax benefits taken away. It's a rigged system designed to concentrate wealth and power at the top.
The same corporations that benefit from these anti-worker tax breaks are the ones pushing for even more corporate tax cuts. For decades they’ve claimed these cuts will lead to higher wages and more jobs, but the evidence—our lived experience—shows us that's not the case. Instead, companies use their tax savings for stock buybacks and executive bonuses, further widening the gap between CEOs and workers.
But right now with the No Tax Breaks for Union Busting Act, we have a real opportunity to shift the balance of power back toward working people.
It's time for taxpayers to stop being forced to subsidize corporate union-busting. This legislation will be a game-changer for working people who are organizing all across the country, giving workers a fairer shot at forming unions and negotiating for better wages and conditions.
Stand with workers this Labor Day. Tell Congress to pass the No Tax Breaks for Union Busting Act and end taxpayer subsidies for corporate greed.
Together, we can end taxpayer subsidies for union busting.
