John,

Working people are the backbone of our city.  As we celebrate Labor Day and the hard working members of labor, I’m proud to come from a family with a long history of strong union membership. My grandfather was a member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, my mother was a member of Laborers Local 261, and my aunt and uncle were Teamsters. And I’m a proud former member of the San Francisco Municipal Executives Association.

The people I grew up with in San Francisco knew that a union job meant good wages, healthcare, a pension, and knowing that your brothers and sisters in labor had your back. Union work afforded us the ability to live in this great city.

But for too many union members, that’s no longer the case because the cost of living is just too high. That’s why every day I’ve held elected office I have worked to make our city more affordable by fighting to build more homes, fund first-time homebuyers assistance, expand access to childcare subsidies, and ensure union members get the pay and benefits they deserve. San Francisco must always be a city that works for working people.

I’m incredibly proud to have the support of a broad labor coalition.

I will always stand by the working people who help keep our city safe, clean, and thriving, and stand up for their right to organize for good wages and safe working conditions.

Sincerely,

Mayor London Breed
