Dear Friends,
As we gather with loved ones this Labor Day, the Massachusetts Democratic Party stands in solidarity with the hardworking people who make our Commonwealth thrive. Today, we honor the contributions of workers across every sector—teachers, healthcare providers, public servants, retail workers, tradespeople, and countless others who are the backbone of our communities.
Labor Day is more than just a day off; it's a reminder of the strength, resilience, and perseverance of the labor movement. It’s a day to reflect on the progress we've made thanks to the tireless efforts of workers and unions who have fought for fair wages, safe working conditions, and the rights and dignity of all employees. Here in Massachusetts, we are proud to continue this legacy by advocating for policies that support working families, promote economic justice, and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
As the son of two union parents, Labor Day always had a special meaning in our house growing up. It was a time to honor the brothers and sisters in organized labor that helped our Dad through tough strikes back in the day or worked along side our Mom as a unit C president and contract negotiator working to get the best protections for her colleagues at their school. It meant understanding that we owed everything to unions and their members…and by “we” I mean the nation
But our work is far from over. As we celebrate today, let’s recommit ourselves to the fight for workers' rights, equitable pay, and the protection of benefits that so many have struggled to secure. The challenges of our time—whether it’s economic inequality, healthcare access, or workplace safety—require our collective action and unwavering commitment.
Let’s use this Labor Day to renew our dedication to the values that unite us: fairness, justice, and the belief that every worker deserves respect and opportunity. Together, we can continue to build a Commonwealth where everyone can prosper.
Wishing you a restful and meaningful Labor Day.
In solidarity,
