John,

When I ran for the Washington state House of Representatives for the first time, I was nervous, just like every first-time candidate. But I knew what I needed to do in order to win. It was a lot of listening to people, having thousands of one-on-one "coffee hours" and knocking one door at a time, hearing about their stories and struggles, and sharing my vision for our community and how we could work together to solve those problems.

Looking back now I am astonished by the short time-frame in which we did it.

You see, back when I ran for office the first time, Labor Day signaled the very start of campaign season. When I first ran, the primary Election wasn't held until mid-September! Today, Labor Day only signals the final lap of a very, very long race. In fact, some candidates who will be on the ballot this November have been running since November 2022, if not longer.

I have grandchildren who are younger than some campaigns!

( Here's my youngest grandchild, Cami, celebrating her First Birthday back in February. She is younger than most of this year's Congressional, Senate, and Statewide campaigns!)

Our elections are growing longer and longer not because we love watching candidates spar on cable television or think endless political advertising is fun, but — in part — because our elections matter more than ever before. Just look at what will be on our ballot this year:

A new president will be elected;

Control of Congress may come down to a single seat in Washington state;

The U.S. Senate could be won by either party;

Washington will elect a new Governor;

Countless state House and Senate candidates will be running for Washington's legislature; and,

I will be on the ballot for Lieutenant Governor because I know that we need to keep working for Washington's families, environment, and economic future.

We have so much at stake in our elections, and the final sprint starts today. I need your help to win this election and to continue the good work we are doing for our friends, families, and communities. Can you donate $3 to my reelection campaign today, and help us reach out to voters and win this election? [[link removed]]
