Americans have been observing Labor Day for 142 years now.
Happy Labor Day, John!
Americans have been observing Labor Day for 142 years now. Since 1882! It’s a day to celebrate not just the work they’ve done, but also the battles they’ve won.
After all, it was labor unions that gave us concepts like the weekend, overtime pay, child labor laws, and workplace safety rules. It’s impossible to overstate their impact, and yet we take so much of it for granted.
That’s why each and every day, I’m proud to stand and fight alongside working people across America. We’ve made so much progress together. But make no mistake, we still have a long way to go.
Republican politicians funded by big corporations are actively trying to reverse all of the progress labor unions have made up to this point. It’s why they’ve passed so-called “right to work laws” in several states that make it much harder to join and operate a union.
They know, as we know, that unions empower working people. So sitting back and letting big business gut labor unions is not an option.
In Congress, we can fight back by passing the PRO Act into law today. It would reverse those so-called “right to work” laws and ensure every American has the right to join and benefit from a union.
If you’re with us in the fight to empower working people across America, will you add your name to the petition calling on Mike Johnson to allow a vote on the PRO Act today?
