Labor Day has always held a special place in my heart. When my parents came to Colorado from a small town in Mexico, they had dreams of a better life for their family. Through hard work, they raised me and my three siblings in Adams County, all on a construction worker’s pay. Thanks to their sacrifice, all four of us were able to go to college and graduate.
Their sacrifices are a reminder of the American Dream – a dream that every hardworking person in this country deserves the chance to achieve. In medical school, I found my voice as a leader, becoming a union representative with SEIU. That’s why I’m dedicated to fighting for workers every day.
I’m proud to stand with the unions and activists who have fought to protect workers for generations. It’s why I helped pass a bipartisan tax cut, expanded paid sick and family leave, fought Big Pharma to decrease prescription prices, and increased funding for early childhood education.
