Hey Folks,

Today is a day of celebration, so we’ll keep it brief. First off, we’d like to thank all of Iowa’s workers for the effort they put in every day. Whether it's cleaning streets, filing paperwork, or spraying the corn that runs into the horizon, Iowa remains known for its work ethic even outside the Midwest.

But it’s also important to remember the progress that led to that hard work getting rewarded. Unions and the workers that formed them helped push the U.S. to mandate things like paid sick leave, workplace safety laws, and injury compensation. Without the workers in the past fighting for fair treatment, the workers of today wouldn’t be able to enjoy many of the rights we now have.

So, go fire up the grills, Iowans. It’s time to celebrate! The guy writing this email is personally very interested in how much pepperjack he can melt on a patty before it isn’t a burger anymore. But no matter how good the food tastes, never forget why we’re here today. Never forget the sacrifices and struggle of the workers that came before.
