Air Quality Alert Impacts Burning Permits

*Burning Permits will not be activated on September 2, 2024, in parts of northern and central Minnesota.*

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert for parts of northern and central Minnesota from September 2 until September 3 at 1 a.m.

To reduce additional air pollutants, burning permits will not be issued or activated. Counties include Aitkin, Becker, Beltrami, Benton, Cass, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, Roseau, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, and Wadena.

The air quality is expected to reach the orange and red air quality index. Red is a level considered unhealthy for everyone. Orange is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
