Happy Labor Day, John!

Today we celebrate all the achievements made by our workforce to create a better, safer working environment.

The 40-hour work week, paid sick time, the weekend, and so much more are the result of the hard-won fights from the labor movement. These are wins that we don’t think twice about anymore when we are looking for a new job, or even just entering the workforce for the very first time. That’s the power of American unions.

Yet there is still so much more we can do to improve our labor conditions. Parents deserve longer parental leave, and everyone deserves an equitable environment where they are paid what they deserve. Even more importantly, we must strive to ensure the power of unions is protected and expanded at every chance we get.

We owe so much to the labor movement, and I’m proud to fight for our unions every day in Congress. I hope you’ll join me in celebrating the achievements of workers this weekend and always.
