Dear DSA Santa Barbara members,
Did you know how important this year's City Council election is in Santa Barbara? We have a real shot to get a pro-tenant, progressive majority on the Council, that will get us on track to make this city affordable and liveable for the working class. But we need every local socialist - including you - to step up and take action.
We need to get as many people out on the streets knocking doors to talk to voters about this chance to change the city for the better. That's why we are asking DSA Santa Barbara members to RSVP to knock doors this Saturday, September 7th in support of Wendy Santamar?a's campaign for City Council in District 1 (Eastside). We will meet at 10am at 123 E. Carrillo St, and go out in coalition with other orgs like SBTU, the UAW, and the local Democratic Party.
DSA Santa Barbara endorsed Wendy in a membership vote because she has a proven track record of fighting for the working class. Currently a union organizer with AFSCME and an active member of the Santa Barbara Tenants Union, Wendy has worked in organizing roles at CAUSE and the Machinists Union among others, as well as organizing for Bernie at UCSB in 2020.
The contrast with her opponent, incumbent Alejandra Gutierrez, couldn't be clearer. Alejandra has a donor list full of landlords, property management companies, and other real estate interests, and she represents them well by opposing rent caps and voting against strong protections against "renoviction".
Please fill out the RSVP form and join us on Saturday. If you can't make it, make sure to leave your contact info: there will be plenty more opportunities over the next two months and we need everyone to make an effort!
In solidarity,
SB DSA Steering Committee
