We honor the labor and contributions of hardworking Americans.
Happy Labor Day ([link removed] )
Dear John,
As we gather to celebrate Labor Day, a time set aside to honor the labor and contributions of hardworking Americans, we are reminded of the profound promise found in Deuteronomy 28:12: “The Lord will open to you His good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands.” The Lord’s blessing is on our labor, which has been a hallmark of American achievement and woven into the fabric of our identity.
When the Pilgrims first set foot on the shores of New England, they embarked on a journey not only to build a new life but to live out their devotion to God. From the dense forests to the guidance of Native American tribes who taught them how to cultivate the land, these early settlers laid the groundwork for a society dedicated to faith and progress. Within just 16 years, they established Harvard University—a beacon of learning to advance the Gospel in their new world.
As the nation grew, so did its ambition. The Transcontinental Railroad, completed in 1869, stands as a monument to our nation's ambition and resolve. Fueled by the spirit of Manifest Destiny, this monumental project connected the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, transforming America into a unified continent. The courageous workers who toiled through perilous conditions and the relentless drive of visionaries opened new frontiers and facilitated unprecedented growth and opportunity.
Labor in the 20th century brought forth additional remarkable accomplishments. The construction of the Hoover Dam, achieved by nearly 21,000 dedicated workers, stands as a testament to American resilience and ingenuity. Built on the Colorado River, this colossal project provided critical water resources and hydroelectric power to the arid Southwest, creating jobs and revitalizing the economy during challenging times. The Hoover Dam remains a testament to the enduring strength and creativity of Americans through history, symbolizing the transformative impact of American labor.
During World War II, America's industrial might was on full display. The rapid production of military tanks, aircraft, and ships mobilized the nation like never before. Factories worked around the clock, churning out essential equipment that played a pivotal role in securing victory for the Allies. This unprecedented effort not only demonstrated our ability to overcome adversity but also solidified America's position as a global powerhouse, advancing freedom and Constitutional Republics around the world.
In just under 350 years from the landing of the Mayflower on American soil, the United States accomplished the trademark achievement of men walking on the moon. The countless hours of building the rockets, training the astronauts, and factoring through complicated algorithms launched not only the United States but the world into a new space age. Millions of hardworking Americans have since devoted their lives to expanding in space and technology and made into reality what man only dreamed of before. The ingenuity and honor towards labor led our nation to making what is called the 5,000-year leap. America went from starting at the same level of technology with the same means as nations around the world for 5,000 years but transformed the entire world with advances in every area of society through the hard work and innovative spirit of countless Americans and the blessing of God.
The infrastructure created through the years not only elevated the standard of living around the world, but also enabled Americans to take the Gospel around the world. Thanks to the invention of technologies like aircraft, cell phones, the internet, satellite networks, and more, the Gospel is reaching people in over 8,000 languages.
President Grover Cleveland instituted Labor Day in 1894, marking a significant milestone in our nation’s history. This federal holiday was created to recognize the social and economic contributions of American workers and to acknowledge the importance of fair labor practices. Over the years, laws have been enacted to protect workers, including reforms to end child labor and ensure reasonable working hours. These changes have promoted a healthier work-life balance, benefiting countless families across generations while remaining one of the greatest workforces through time.
As we reflect on these accomplishments, let us remember Proverbs 16:3: “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Our labor is a testament to God’s faithfulness and our commitment to advancing His Kingdom.
May this Labor Day inspire us to continue building, innovating, and sharing the Gospel, honoring the legacy of those who paved the way with their dedication and hard work.
God bless you, and God bless America.
Sincerely,
The Truth & Liberty Staff
