My father was a labor leader — so for me, Labor Day is about more than just BBQ and a day off.
My father instilled in me the importance of hard work and dedication, and taught me about the important victories won by labor unions: weekends, overtime, workplace safety, fair wages, and so much more.
So today, let’s honor the true meaning of Labor Day and say thank you to our workers. Your dedication, resilience, and hard work keep our community moving forward.

As a working mom, I understand the challenges that our workers face. It’s why I was proud to sponsor legislation to expand Miami-Dade’s ability to raise wages and give more benefits to workers when I served in the State Senate.
Now, I’m proud to have earned the support of several of our unions — a true testament to the values I hold closest to me. Thank you to AFSCME South Florida, AFL-CIO, United Teachers of Dade and SEIU Florida, SEIU 32BJ, and SEIU 1991!
This Labor Day, let’s honor the labor movement’s rich history and continue to stand up for the rights of those who power our communities. And let’s keep fighting to make sure that we kick my opponent — who wrote anti-union bills — out of office and elect a Clerk of Court and Comptroller who will put workers first!
