Happy Labor Day!
While a lot of folks are just happy for a three day weekend, I can’t think about Labor Day without thinking about all the hard work labor unions and working people across the country have put in to get us where we are.
Just think — we owe everything from child labor laws to the weekend to the labor movement. And research has shown over and over again that workers in union jobs are, on average, happier and paid better than those in non-union jobs. The middle class built this country and unions built the middle class.
I’ve worked hard to support working people and the labor movement in the State Senate, and I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of all of Delaware’s local unions in my campaign for Congress. Their support means so much to me in many ways.
I’ve pledged that as my first act as your next member of Congress, I’ll sign onto the PRO Act. In Washington, I’ll advance the fight for working families. Together, we can pass paid family and medical leave like we’ve already achieved in Delaware, raise the federal minimum wage, and a long list of worker-friendly policies to make government work better for everyday people.
I always joke that my office in Congress is going to feel like a union hall, but it’s actually a promise, not a joke.
