Labor Day is a time for us to celebrate and honor the American Labor Movement.
The labor movement’s hard-fought gains benefit workers across Maryland and have paved the way for many of the benefits and protections workers have today. I’m honored to lead a union workforce in the Office of the Comptroller and appreciate their dedication to serving the people.
Over the past year, I worked with Governor Moore, Labor Secretary Portia Wu and Attorney General Anthony Brown to set up the Joint Enforcement Task Force on Workplace Fraud – a team effort dedicated to ending misclassification of workers and workplace fraud in Maryland. Through collaboration and information sharing, we will ensure that employers are not cheating workers - so that all workers are paid what they are owed, and so is the state! Just last week, we held a public hearing where we heard from numerous unions on the fraud they had found at worksites across Maryland.
From the courtrooms where I represented workers who had been mistreated and underpaid, to the General Assembly where I fought for our workers and unions, to the Office of the Comptroller where I continue to advocate, I have always been a proud advocate for unions and working families in our state. Today, I reaffirm my commitment to ensuring that every worker has a fair shot on a level playing field and that our unions continue to be allowed to organize.
I hope you and your family have a safe and restful Labor Day!
My very best,
(She, Her, Hers)
