Send a message to Congress: Co-sponsor the Clean School Bus Act to electrify our school bus fleets and keep our kids healthy »
Friend — I want to tell you about some exciting developments in our efforts to fight pollution and bring clean rides to kids. Just last week, Representative Jahana Hayes introduced the Clean School Bus Act, which would provide $1 billion to help school districts across the country replace diesel buses with electric buses. This is the companion bill to Senator Kamala Harris's school bus bill introduced just a few weeks ago on the Senate side.
This legislation could be a game-changer for our
niños. Every day, more than 25 million children and thousands of bus drivers breathe polluted air from dirty diesel school buses during their commute to school, leading to asthma and other respiratory conditions. Asthma attacks are a leading cause of school absenteeism, particularly for low-income and communities of color who often don't have access to quality health care. These dirty, aging school buses are lose-lose for students. Our kids deserve better.
Switching to electric school buses will improve health and educational outcomes for students AND help combat climate change. But in order for us to make clean rides a reality, we need you to reach out to your members of Congress today.
Sign today — urge your members of Congress to support the electrification of school buses across the country »
The Clean School Bus Act is the first federal legislation to prioritize the electrification of school buses in low-income and most-impacted communities. We know that communities of color are most at risk of breathing dirty air and disproportionately suffer from pollution — that's why we're urging our members of Congress to co-sponsor these bills today, and we need your help.
The Clean School Bus Act will:
- Provide grants of up to $2 million to replace diesel school buses with electric school buses.
- Give priority to applications that serve lower-income students.
- Replace the most polluting buses and decrease pollution from emissions.
- Authorize funds from the Department of Energy to fund a Clean School Bus Grant Program.
It's time to bring electric school buses across the country and we need YOU to join our fight. In order to make this a reality, we need all members of Congress to stand behind this bill.
Tell your members of Congress to co-sponsor the Clean School Bus Act to bring clean school buses to your community.
Kids shouldn't have to worry about breathing dirty air on their way to school. Urge your members of Congress to co-sponsor the Clean School Bus Act to help make sure our students have illness-free days.
We never would have gotten to this point without the dedicated work of our organizers and volunteers on the ground. Our campaign is proof that grassroots, community-driven solutions can lead to real change. We can't thank our moms, youth, and community groups enough for leading the fight. We're committed to supporting solutions led by Latinos and communities of color and making our political power seen, heard, and felt by decision makers.
Thank you for being part of this movement.
