Dear John,
Melon pickers are essential workers during the Covid-19 pandemic and yet the billion-dollar Fyffes corporation refuses to give them face masks and gloves, and has not implemented any social distancing on overcrowded company buses.
This May Day, please join us for a 1-hour webinar with farmworkers from Honduras and representatives of the International Labor Rights Forum, Fair World Project, and Sindicato de Trabajadores de la Agroindustria y Similares (STAS):
International Workers’ Day: Farmworkers Demand Justice in Honduras
Friday, May 1 | 1:00 p.m. Eastern / 10 a.m. Pacific / 7:00 p.m. CET

The level of misinformation that workers on Fyffes melon farms in Honduras are receiving during Covid-19 is shocking. As Bloomberg reported yesterday, in an extremely dehumanizing remark, a manager told dozens of workers that locals “are protected because we’ve eaten dirt since we were young.” While packing plant workers now have essential PPE, the farmworkers who pick the melons have nothing.
Join us, tomorrow, on May 1, to hear from farmworkers and trade unionists in Honduras who are fighting for justice on the farms of multinational corporation Fyffes, the number one supplier of melons to the U.S. market.
The webinar, hosted by the International Labor Rights Forum, will also highlight the long-term, ongoing human and labor rights violations on these plantations as revealed in the new report, Fyffes Farms Exposed: The Fight for Justice in the Honduran Melon Fields, by ILRF, Fair World Project, and the International Union of Food Workers (IUF) Latin America Regional Secretariat, with support from 3F International.
ILRF stands with the frontline workers who are planning a wave of May Day strikes tomorrow. Please remember to not cross the picket line and to show solidarity with these essential workers by not shopping at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Amazon, or Target, or using Instacart or FedEx, on May 1st.
In solidarity,
Liana Foxvog
Director of Campaigns
