1. Inmate accidentally released by Delco blasts prison conditions, says he’ll turn himself in this week

By Todd Shepherd

The inmate mistakenly released from the Delaware County prison claims he repeatedly told prison officials he was not supposed to be let go. While Daniel Rogers also told Broad + Liberty in a Sunday phone interview he intends to turn himself in to the facility this week, he’s fearful the administration will exact retribution against him for embarrassing the facility because of his untimely release — something he contends is their fault, not his.

Rogers first contacted Broad + Liberty by commenting on the original story published about his accidental release. Those comments have been approved, and so are available at that story. When doing so, he provided his email address which allowed us to reach out to him. He verified his identity as Daniel Rogers to our satisfaction.

Why It Matters. As previously reported, Rogers was charged with a DUI in May 2023, a case that took more than a year to go to trial. When he was sentenced as part of a guilty plea on a lesser charge, it triggered a parole violation from a previous case in 2021 in which Rogers admits he was dealing drugs. (He says he has been sober since October of last year).

The DUI sentence, after a plea deal was struck, was three days — 72 hours. The new sentencing because of the parole violation was 12-24 months. The prison somehow didn’t know about the longer sentence, and released him.

But Rogers, who has been in and out of the George W. Hill Correctional Facility numerous times over the years, blasted the current state of the prison.

Quotable. “I get it: It’s a jail, but the way that [inmates are] treated is unacceptable,” Rogers said.

2. Lies, damn lies, and Biden/Harris statistics

By Guy Ciarrocchi

Gaslighting: telling someone to trust what they’re being told — and ignore the reality that they see and hear.

The idea that the government would do it to its own citizens makes you think about a sci-fi movie, or life in a totalitarian nation like North Korea, China or the former Soviet Union. Citizens are kept ignorant so that they wouldn’t know how bad their lives are. And so that the decisions of the leaders are never questioned. Worse, it causes division among fellow citizens because anyone questioning what the government tells them is portrayed as disloyal, ignorant — or “weird.”

That the Biden/Harris administration would mislead us on so much for so long is nothing short of gaslighting. They repeatedly work to make us believe an alternate reality based on “statistics” — and demand that we ignore the obvious contradictions in what we are experiencing in our daily lives. That those in power are doing this to win, to retain and expand their power and those of their political allies is a tragic turning point in American history. Not campaign history:  American history.

Why It Matters.  Voters have a decision to make. We see the effects of inflation in our daily lives, many sense economic unease at their workplaces, and many don’t feel safe visiting cities, or nearby suburbs, due to the fear of violent crime.

Who do we trust to fix this mess?

3. Lightning Round

4. What we're reading

This week at National Review, Noah Rothman points out a disturbing trend in our politics: no one will ever admit they were wrong. They won’t even admit they changed their minds. The people demand honesty and humility, but what we get are egomaniacs who, like Kamala Harris, flip-flop on positions and refuse to explain why — or even agree that they’ve changed at all. Is Harris for fracking? Against it? She’s said both at different times and her only response to reporters' questions is to say “my values have not changed.” Huh? What we wouldn’t give for a candidate who talked to the voters like they were adults.
