Dear John,
Mujur, a 19 year old orangutan held captive at Dublin Zoo, has given birth three times, and every time it has ended in tragedy.
Mujur's first two babies sadly died; one from being unable to feed from her properly, and one dying from their injuries after she beat them in utter desperation.
Mujur has grown up in an unnatural environment, with no role models. She has never learned how to be a mother, or been offered the right support. Yet despite this, Mujur recently gave birth again. This time, the zoo forcibly removed her baby to send him to another zoo. Why was Mujur given the opportunity to breed again when so much turmoil has already taken place? Why is the zoo allowing this terrible suffering to continue?
The stress of captivity and the lack of social structure will have played a huge part in these tragic events, all under the guise of conservation for animals who will not even make it to the wild.
You can help Mujur and animals like her - please join us as a Freedom Champion and make a stand against this cruelty!

This is Mujur with her second baby. You can clearly see the love, but the tragic reality is that Mujur was just never shown the skills needed to nurture her child. In captivity she has never had any role models, and no one to show her the way. Why would anyone let her endure this suffering three times? Now her latest baby has been removed, and he will be forced to grow up without a mother. And the cycle continues.
