Every day we hear about how COVID-19 is wreaking havoc on the American health care system. Doctors don't have the resources to treat their patients. I know how they feel.
In Kenya, where I work, this is a reality we face every day.
Since Donald Trump imposed his Global Gag Rule, he has forced health clinics to shut their doors or stop providing comprehensive reproductive health care.
It's completely demoralizing to have to turn people away, and the situation is even more dire during this outbreak.
Tell your senators to pass the Global HER Act immediately, repealing Trump's Global Gag Rule and restoring funding to health care providers right now.
COVID-19 exacerbates all the existing impacts of the Global Gag Rule, and the Global Gag Rule is exacerbating the impacts of the pandemic.
This pandemic is disrupting health care systems already strained by clinic closures and health care staffing cuts. Now health care centers—the ones that have managed to remain open under Trump's Global Gag Rule—are overwhelmed with COVID-19 cases and simply don't have the resources they need to provide the full range of care.
It doesn't have to be this way.
Right now we should be increasing funding for health care workers on the frontlines of this pandemic, not restricting it. That's why the Senate must pass the Global HER Act and repeal Trump's Global Gag Rule immediately.
Write to your senators right now and urge them to repeal Trump's Global Gag Rule to allow clinics to respond to this global health crisis.
Thank you,
