[ [link removed] ]Ayanna Pressley for Congress

This is a
longer note about our campaign finance system, but it’s important.

Outside spending in the 2024 election cycle has just surpassed $1 billion,
nearly twice the amount that was spent in the 2020 election (and we still
have two months to go…).

That spending is coming from Super PACs and other outside groups that are
allowed to raise and spend unlimited amounts of money (thanks, Citizens
United) from people, groups, and corporations that can afford to spend
unlimited amounts of money. Think: far-right conservative groups, crypto
executives, and the fossil fuel industry.

That historic spending has been a key factor in Democratic primaries
across the country, resulting in progressives needing to raise an
unprecedented amount of money in order to compete. When you speak truth to
power, power will fight back.

It’s a sad truth: Our campaign finance laws enable our democracy to be
heavily influenced by money, a resource that is not democratized.

But we are not powerless. We can, and we will, reform this unjust system.
In the long-term, that means overturning the Supreme Court’s unjust ruling
on Citizens United. And on that note, that means expanding the Supreme
Court and passing a binding code of ethics for justices to ensure
accountability and restore integrity in our judicial system.

But in the short-term, today, it means supporting progressive candidates
who reject corporate PAC money so we can continue to compete against any
future threats from outside spenders — including our campaign.

support this movement? There’s power in our numbers, and a $5 donation can
compete against a billionaire's check when we all pitch in.

These Republican-funded Super PACs don’t care about people living paycheck
to paycheck, or about expanding access to housing.

They don’t care about reproductive rights, our care economy, or Black
maternal morbidity.

They don’t care about organizing communities and helping voters exercise
their right to make their voices heard.

They don’t care about tackling the real issues that working people face
every single day.

They typically have one goal, advancing the interests of their right-wing,
billionaire mega donors and investing millions to install candidates in
Congress who will help them achieve that goal.

The threats to our democracy from Republican-funded super PACs will not
stop our work for justice. I ran for Congress not just to have a seat at
the decision-making table — I ran to build new tables. Not just to occupy
space, but to create it.

With your support, I became the first Black woman and first person of
color to represent Massachusetts in the House of Representatives. We did
it with a grassroots fundraising operation, without accepting a dime from
corporate PACs (and I still don’t).

I have never forgotten my roots — as the daughter of a tenants’ rights
organizer, as someone whose family was impacted by our mass incarceration
crisis — as an organizer myself. From fighting for paid leave, advocating
for student debt cancellation, creating programs to celebrate and support
Black men, and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza to bring an end to violence
in the region, I lead with love and center the people.

My progressive colleagues and I have taken strong stances that put
humanity first, and for that we’ve been targeted.

We will not be intimidated, or allow our hard-earned progressive wins to
be undone.

away our power, make a donation now to power this movement ahead of my
primary.

I am so grateful to have you on the A-Team.

Onward,

Ayanna
